People often say that often times you never know when an opportunity may arise and that you need to always be prepared for it. That’s true many times as it can just feel like plain luck of being at the right place at the right time. But what got me thinking recently is that I am used to seeing people get last minute requests to complete something which has them scrambling to find the right people to help them do the job.
So when I got a phone call on whether or not I could whip up this presentation material quickly as they need it as soon as possible I told them I was actually able to do it in a few hours. The thing is this isn’t the first time and nor will it be the last based on history. In this case too there are tons of people they could have asked under a normal circumstance. But knowing I have always been able to deliver during clutch times I guess you could say I was the first person they reached out to.
This is actually another way to build your reputation instead of simply working a strict 9 to 5 schedule as an example. It’s not a bad idea especially if it is a field where you have a lot of flexibility to do so as these last minute requests happen all the time in various industries.
