I was still following that story on how the media company Linus Tech Tips has been receiving a lot of negative press lately and how they have been dealing with it. It would appear they felt it got so big that they created a video explaining about the situation from their end and how they are going to make changes such as reducing the amount of videos they publish each day. But one item was how the founder himself initially responded publicly in what most considered a disaster since it felt like he was blaming others.
With that, in the video he was fundamentally explaining how it’s difficult to read all the comments of people accusing him to be a horrible person and I think naturally a lot of people would feel the need to say something. That raises the question, should you always just keep it to yourself in this case when you are running a large company? I can see how it may be different if you are very small, but for large corporations there are constantly so much eyes and ears ready to scrutinize every word that you say.
That’s usually why big companies have PR departments to do the talking for them huh? Because in some cases it could be just a competitor strategy to make themselves look like the bigger man as they say. Some people were even suggesting they shouldn’t have said anything as the majority does not care about the drama. What a crazy saga this is.
