There was so much business talk about the recent advertisement for the company American Eagle and its brand of jeans where they hired Sydney Sweeney to pose as the model. Apparently, the ad had a play on words on how she has good “genes” which I suppose is supposed to in turn make the jeans sound great too. What was kind of surprising was how there were people offended by this as I guess you can say there were people who didn’t agree with the type of model the company chose. Regardless, this was a successful campaign for the company as the jeans sold out.
To make it more interesting, the company apparently released a statemen about the incident. At first glance you would think it was a typical corporate response to try and not offend anyone, but they went all in essentially creating a sarcastic post about the fuss as they stood by their choice. I guess this is one of those situations where you clearly can’t make everyone happy so you just need to pick a lane.
As well, I suppose it is just business where you need to decide which groups you are willing to lose as a result of the direction you take. I still find it a little surprising that this basic ad of sort is so controversial in a political way. But it’s the sign of the times too on what people will and won’t support overall.
