I was heavily monitoring my site statistics over the past few days as for the blog I have about a 20 gigabyte limit of bandwidth per month before it would incur additional charges. Looks like I made it under the quota though as seen here:

This reminded me how it was almost like a business as well in regards to purchasing equipment or resources to run it. Many times people fall into the trap of simply buying and acquiring everything emotionally before they even have any use for it as they mention that they are simply planning for the future. To further entice that thought, sudden growth spurts often cause one to not assess any negative happenings as well.
You know from a personal standpoint that many times people go into debt as a result of buying so many things that they truly don’t need simply because they can and in a business setting the situation can be the same. I guess it is kind of like the thought on how there is no point spending loads of money buying a car that can drive up to 300 km/h an hour when you are in a place where the limit is 50 km/h for the most part.
In my opinion, the best type of sign to determine if you need to expand or enhance your resources is if you find that you are spending more than 30% of your time worrying about it. Like with this bandwidth example, if over the next few weeks the situation remains the same then it only makes sense to take the plunge and go the next step up. Until then, I can still use the same plan to maximize the service that I am paying for as you never know what will happen.
