Trusting Third Party Site Reviews More Than Official Ones

A lot of company site nowadays have built in customer review systems where people can see publicly what customers say about a product to help those who are sitting on the fence. This was an interesting example though of a company I never heard of called Nectar that appears to make mattresses. They seemed to be having this crazy sale where they were selling pretty much all of its mattresses for $199. These are usually well over $600 it seems so it sounds like a steal. The reviews on the site seemed okay too.

However, when you look at the reviews for the company on third party sites it tells a different story with people having nightmares dealing with order fulfillment issues and other quality assurance items. This seemed consistent to the point where it makes me weary of trying the company’s products. I was thinking too, despite all the positive reviews on their official site I felt like the third-party site reviews held more weight since the company has less control over that.

It reminds me how if people know a person was given the product to review one would likely not take their opinion as seriously as someone who bought it with their own money. It shows the importance of genuine customer feedback from sources that are outside of your company’s control. If anything, having people monitor them and interact with concerns can be a better form of investment then just paying people to review them.
