Studying People Who Fake Guru Their Way To Become An Expert

For some reason it seems like the topic if fake gurus is more prevalent this year. I’m not sure what it is as maybe more people want to be say an entrepreneur in this new decade where it’s then natural for one to look for resources to do so. This usually leads to people buying how to get rich quick type of materials or attempting to follow the advice of experts. That’s where the problem comes in it seems where many times these experts are simply people who live on selling generic courses where they never actually ran a business in general. It’s almost like selling courses on how to win the lottery where in that case it’s basically just about luck. On top of that the person never won the lottery either. But people will still buy the course. How’s that huh?

Because of this last year I was actually following the journey of a person who pretty much was just a regular person and had no in-depth knowledge of a specific industry he was targeting. However, there were some big changes happening which meant a ton of people would be searching for information on the topic. So what the person did was he essentially created an e-book package where this information was nothing more than copying materials from government websites. Imagine being from another country and all you did was mostly just copy and paste public information from government sites to then make yourself the expert of that region.

The fascinating thing was how he gained that trust from people. It came down to taking advantage of perception bias from my observations. For example, for a young person you would assume they would be say athletic or truly understand new trends. So when they talk about certain subjects versus say an elderly you would tend to think they would know more. This person used that same concept where since he is noticeably older than most the bias would be if you see a person like that talk about specific information you assume that he has been doing it or a long time.

It was fascinating to see him get ahead of others by taking advantage of that bias that many people have. As it turned out afterwards many people saw him as the guru of sort when really he didn’t know any more than most other people. I mean it’s a great way to study business tactics that can actually help you from being duped by fake gurus in fields you aren’t too knowledgeable in either. Especially if it involves paying thousands of dollars for some course as well.
