Seeing Your Interest Grow As Motivation

A lot of people say it’s a lot more fun to just spend all the money you have versus saving it because it’s just boring if you only work to save money without ever spending it. That’s true to a certain extent of course as we do earn money to spend it on food and other things to love life. But for myself I always found it fun to save money as watching it grow in places such as a savings account oddly can give you satisfaction too like playing a video game.

Even when I was a kid seeing how I earned a couple of cents by saving my money made it a fun game of sort as I tried my best to earn more to the point where I started to get say a few dollars per month for free. It actually discouraged me from just spending my money on anything as that would mean it wouldn’t grow as fast. When you grow up that can translate to other things such as investing in stocks or starting a business. But similarly, watching your portfolio grow to me is fun in the same way as participate in a card game or something.

I found that to be a good way to motivate younger people as well to really think about return of investments where once they see something basic like the interests earnings on a savings account it can go a long way to encourage them to save and earn more versus jus spending $50 at a restaurant all the time. It’s probably one of the most accessible ways to give people that encouragement early on as well. It makes you wonder why more parents don’t treat say opening a bank account and getting their child to experience how they can earn money by investing it early isn’t seen as an important step in life.
