Seeing Ridiculously Cheap Services In Other Countries

I obviously don’t have a vehicle while I am visiting here in the US and one suggestion was that I use the service Uber. This service is currently banned from operating in Vancouver and so I never actually got to try it. I was given a free $20 voucher to use if I decided to use the service while I am here which got me curious to see what the rates were to use the service in general.

At first glance I thought I was reading this wrong as it says 18 cents per minute plus $1 per mile. Compared to a taxi here that is cheap. After seeing this it kind of makes me wonder why services like these aren’t getting approved locally. Granted like here you could argue about safety issues. With prices that have that much of a difference though it just feels it’s more about not wanting competition in a lot of ways.

It’s kind of interesting reading the line of “Uber is not a transportation provider. No need to tip” as it sounds like a legal way of not being classified as a taxi. Experiences like this makes me hope that I will see something like this available locally.
