Seeing Good Internet Access Deals With Bad Consumer Reviews

I kind of narrowed down some choices of Internet service providers here in the Vancouver area. For the most part, virtually everyone is still using the company Shaw cable’s lines except everyone is charging their own rates. The drawback here is that if something is wrong with the service the reseller is basically helpless in doing anything until Shaw fixes it. The prices are super appealing though. For the Internet cable service with Shaw it is currently $67+ a month with its sudden rate increase. As well, they are using this new plan where after six months you have to pay about $70 a month.

If I was to go with its resellers, I could the get the service as cheap as $39.99 a month for the same thing and more as you can see here:

It’s interesting how much cheaper a reseller can be for virtually the same thing. One thing that did make me a little weary was all the negative experiences and reviews I have read online. It seemed like with the company CIK Telecom it has a lot of disgruntled customers. The other one I compared was from a company called Lightspeed and some of the stories of service speed wasn’t too assuring. At the same time, it seemed like they both have the same type of complaints as dealing with Shaw directly.

I was doing the math and if I was to cut the cable and go with a reseller I could literally save over $900 a year at least. One could easily use that extra $900 and subscribe to services like a Netflix to get additional viewing options as a result of cord cutting. The antenna seems fine too at the moment. I guess now it’s about which one to take the risk with as the reviews seem very mixed in terms of customer support and service quality even though everyone is still using Shaw’s cable lines. The journey to save money continues.

    Been with CIK for a year. They have fantastic customer support who speak both English&Mandarin. I’ve had consistent high quality service with no down time or disruption. BTW, I use 25M/10M Fttn plan.
