Rebranding Climate Action Rebate To Canada Carbon Rebate

There was a lot of talk here on how the government has decided to rebrand its climate action rebate to now be known as the Canada Carbon rebate with a lot of emphasis that people will be getting more money back than what they pay. The name change itself is generating controversy because people are seeing it as a way to change public perception of a carbon tax which many feel is simply making things more expensive.

It must work to a certain perception wise. It almost reminds me of that Simpson episode where a tax needed to be introduced and they decided to name it a “temporary refund adjustment” as a lot of the characters just hear the word “refund” and assume it’s good. Image perception is often a big thing for companies in terms of having to physically look a certain way to instill confidence in people. How you name things is just as important I suppose to trigger an emotional response.

Funny enough though, while reading about ow much people will get the province I live in, British Columbia, wasn’t even listed on the site.
