For myself it’s pretty common where I am essentially the tech guy for a lot of my family members where when they have an issue with electronics for example they ask me for help. Even the slightest issue such as simply plugging in some TV cables is often too much where they would most likely hiring help if I wasn’t there.
So today there was a funny issue where I was told a remote for the TV box wasn’t working. At first they thought it was the battery and so they bought some fresh ones from the store. Once they replaced it the remote seemed to work but just for a very short time. After trying even more batteries they conclude that the remote was broken and needed servicing of some kind. If I wasn’t there they definitely would have paid someone an arm and leg to look at it.
I was actually able to fix it quickly. As it turned out while they did replace the battery there were actually two compartments. Since it was a smart remote of sort there was actually one battery slot on the bottom for the remote itself to control things like the channel and on the bottom there was another for the keyboard. So the issue was simply they forgot to change one of the batteries. The reaction was hilarious of course.
It just made me think here before you go off and spend your hard earned money to get things fixed the solution could actually be really simply.
