I was watching some wrestling matches today and there are terms for generic move sets like with most things in life. For example, a punch and a kick is as is and there is nothing unique about it. However, in some cases it seems like there were wrestlers that used well-known moves except they simply added their name to the moves instead. Instead of a “punch” as an example it would be the wrestler’s name and then punch. That made me think if that would actually work well for other things.
For example, if you had a restaurant would you simply call the steak on your menu as is or would you insist in naming it somehow with your name instead? If you owned the Keg would you insist in labelling as the “Keg Steak” instead? Instead of saying French fries would you think saying “McDonald’s Fries” would provide more potential in terms of marketing opportunities?
One thing is for sure, if you can get a generation of people to use your unique names when they reference certain things it will definitely help with your branding. I think a common example is with search engines where a lot of people don’t just say “Search it online” where instead they tell people to “Google It”. Imagine that kind of an influence and recognition in that way for your offerings. In that sense, maybe it’s not such a silly thing to do.
