I was watching this interesting video that talked about an organization called HouseFresh where apparently they do reviews on air purifier products and is one of the few who are independent versus being owned by a large parent company. As it goes, they did a review on a Puroair air purifier product where it didn’t exactly put them in the best light I guess you can say. Because of that, apparently the HouseFresh company started to get takedown notices for their reviews and even delisted from Google search.
This was initiated by Puroair it seems and as you can imagine this generated controversy around the topic of companies being able to control negative reviews and how easy it is for undesired reviews to be taken down. It gets you to think too where when you choose a business that goes against say a lot of powerful organizations it may be a fight that you just simply can’t handle even if you are fully in the right.
I’m sure everyone would say the noble thing where they want more independent companies like these, but financially it can be too much of a drain. It’s a serious topic you should think about whenever you are going into venture as going against the popular opinion may not be the best business decision unfortunately. Imagine starting a magazine wanting to review products and every company boycotts you when it comes to free samples which means more expenses as you have to buy all the items yourself. Are you prepared for that?
