Price Protecting Gifts That Were Given To You

This was kind of funny I thought. A few days ago I was given some gifts where the people happened to give me a gift receipt as well. This is just a precaution if I happened to already have the item and wanted to exchange it of course. Now it just so happened that a competitor this week was selling the same items except at a better deal. The gift receipt tells me exactly where they bought it from and I pretty much knew what the regular retail prices are. Technically, I could take the items back to the store and price match it with the competitor.

Would it seem too weird in this case? To me, it’s essentially free money that I can put towards other people’s gifts in the future. In many ways I would feel silly not to do this even though it is extremely unusual. I am probably going to get a strange stare from the customer service people too for this.
