Today I decided to explore a new area which got me thinking as it is one habit that has saved me money throughout the years. The first thing I did was look at an online map of available supermarkets and off I went to explore. Usually when people go to a new area they would want to check things such as parks or restaurants. Out of habit, walking through a supermarket is like walking through a park for me as well.
Usually if I need to actually buy something I would pretty much go into the store, buy the item and leave. I guess for many that’s odd as when most people go grocery shopping they will spend a lot of time browsing through everything to see what to stock up on for the week. I usually save the roaming for days like these where I don’t actually have to buy anything. If I see a crazy deal though then I would buy it. Now assuming the new place I visited seems like a good place to shop I would often plan my commute where if I am simply walking I would go through the store as if it was a trail. If there is a deal then great. If not, it is simply like a troll in the park.
This probably wouldn’t work as well if you had to say drive. So, it’s more meant for the businesses that are around your local area like say within a 5km radius or so. I was actually talking to a person before who said ever since they decided to drive less they have found themselves doing the same thing where they quickly stop by the local stores for a quick look where he often finds great deals that save him money in the long run.
Whether or not you think walking through the supermarket is a fun thing is subjective of course. But it definitely helps me to save money as it keeps you frequently updated with all the deals.
