Money Assumption With Lifestyle Habits

This was probably one of the oddest mindsets I ever heard someone say when it comes to money. I was just quickly meeting a person to talk a bit about business items and he happened to be at a place drinking alcohol and asked me to drop by. So I did. As I arrived he asked if I wanted to order a beer. I actually don’t drink alcohol and told him that where it’s all good as I was simply there as a quick met and greet. His immediate response about me being a non-alcoholic was that I must be just those cheap guys that don’t want to spend money.

While he was obviously joking in many ways that was kind of interesting how people associate lifestyle habit choices as if it directly correlates with spending habits. For myself the choice to not drink alcohol was mainly because I never saw the benefit in it health wise and people often said that they had to make themselves get used to the taste to enjoy it. Saving money is more of just the added benefit to further convince me to bypass it. But it makes you wonder if mindsets like that is often why people do certain things because they don’t to be viewed as cheap per se.

I would have thought social stigmas like that got left behind in high school. But I suppose in this example it’s still a thing. It’s no wonder why many times people spend so much dining out as an example in these cases where it seems like it’s more of a way to project a financial image which is probably not a good idea overall.
