How Many Times Do You Try And Save A Sale

Recently I had to use Dropbox as a business decided to use that as a way to transfer some very large files for everyone to review. When I tried to download it I was nagged with a message saying how I needed one of its premium accounts to do so. I really didn’t want to spend money just for that but fortunately there was a free trial and so I signed up for that.

After using the service I cancelled it as I didn’t want to be billed for something I wouldn’t use. The cancellation process was interesting as there was screen after screen of a sales pitch asking you to stay. It would ask things such as why you are cancelling and as well providing you with different offers in hopes that you change your mind. Eventually I was able to cancel it but that kind of begs the question how many times is too much to try and save the sale?

I think the wackiest example is that one way back of the guy trying to cancel his AOL account only to have the service rep continually pester him on why he should stay. I personally think two tries is enough where if you offer someone a better price or a better package where they still say no then that should be it. Otherwise it’s like going to a store where you are afraid to even shop there again as you know the cashier will pitch you for 10 minutes on a warranty plan as an example even when you are set to just get the item.
