Today I actually learned something that made me glad that I was very cautious initially of a person who claimed that he wanted to offer me assistance if I needed it. While that is great it just seemed a little off where you have to wonder “what’s in it for you” type of mindset. Way back I would always just go along with it when people seem to want to go out of their way to be involved with what you do. But one thing that stuck out to me was how every time he offered me help it seemed like he wanted to include himself in things like the events. That was the initial red flag where to me it felt like he just wanted to use me to get to the things that he wanted for himself.
So as time went on I had that in the back of my head. Whenever the person offered me things like resources he would claim it would be good for me. But I often ended up not accepting the offer because again it always felt like he wanted to include himself in things as opposed to simply offering something because he feels I would benefit from it. I guess a funny way to think about it is it’s almost like companies giving away free pens at events. With their name plastered all over it they want to give it more for the advertisement per se.
That’s how this situation felt to me. So recently it seemed like this person tried to get specific people to in a sense recognize him by referencing the fact that he knows me. That was the second big flag. Eventually I saw that the person has been attempting the same thing with others in virtually the exact same way. I guess you can say it felt like I dodged a bullet.
It’s unfortunate but you often do have to analyze if the things you are being offered are genuine as opposed to just taking everything that is thrown at you. Otherwise this truly will be one of those cases where when people get what they want they will just run away quickly. Not worth it in the long run in those cases I feel as it’s better to surround yourself with genuine supporters.
