This is an interesting topic as a person was saying how he was distressed for not listening to people where they suggested he should take advantage of a certain trend as it will probably do his business good as he can position himself to take advantage of the potential explosive growth. However, he arrogantly dismissed it because the people suggesting it weren’t in the business versus just being regular consumers. You know how this story goes. A few months later the trend he was told did explode only for him to see competitors cash in on it while he sat in the sidelines regretting his decision.
I know people usually say you shouldn’t care about what others think as you have to trust your own decisions. But this isn’t the same because you are essentially getting input from the consumers that dictate what will and will not be hot. Therefore, you need to keep an open mind and analyze if it has merit. Otherwise this is like working at a retail store where the people walking in are telling you about this upcoming product they are excited about only for you to sway them off and only listen to what the executives in the company say.
Sure there are times where the opinions you get may be irrelevant, but it’s wise to at least do some due diligence in terms of the word on the street as they say.
