Yesterday I discovered something bad as I was looking for some old fireworks footage from my hard drive that I only use to store archived files and I couldn’t find it. That was odd as at first glance it seemed like all the files were listed orderly by folder numbers. But then it hit me as it looked like there were literally a 30 day period of folders that were missing for some reason. What on earth happened? Did I just forget to save it? Did the files get corrupted where the videos got deleted?
This is supposed to be my backup drive too which makes you wonder how much money you need to invest to semi ensure that all your data is going to be stored safely in case something happens. It doesn’t make financial sense like here to buy say three hard drives with all the same files just in case one breaks down as an example.
I know some companies actually store all their files locally plus they actually send all their files to a cloud service as the extra backup. But those are meant for businesses that create say TV shows and movies where they have the budget to continually do so. You could argue it’s priceless in the event like these, but at some point it would be like paying say an additional $500 a year for every insurance imaginable like hurricanes even if your area shouldn’t experience them.
