Having To Pass On Work Based On Union Affiliations

This was a first actually for me where I was originally in discussion with a company to potentially help them do some work where for the most part it was straight forward. However, it seems like they also wanted me to do things that would require me to use say my likeness on their marketing materials and I happen to be in the performers union which means I can’t just work on any projects as they have to abide by union rules. So while all the other technical work I could do that part of the proposal I would have to put the brakes on.

That’s actually the first time I experienced something like this for a piece of work that shouldn’t usually involve say this performers union. Everyone needs to follow the established rules of course as it makes thing consistent. But it’s a good example where if you are just starting out perhaps it can be a good idea to try and do as much as you can as like here you could be turning down opportunities that may be beneficial overall.

Sometimes the overlap can be more than you originally thought as well.
