This was funny I thought but is actually very common as recently I was looking at a backpack that may be good for me and the price is listed at about $356 which is pretty pricey but not crazy when you compare it to other backpacks of similar build and quality. But what was interesting is that when you see it’s shipping price they actually list the product as $259.21.
Now many times companies actually list a lower price in these instances in order to reduce the cost of shipping such as when you are shipping across the border and having a lower figure actually helps to reduce cost. In this case too, it makes me wonder if that is close to what the actual cost of the item is for the business where the remaining amount is how much profit they make. Basically, about $100 for selling the whole thing.
You would think a lot of people would be upset but I think most people understand a business needs to make money and that doesn’t seem crazy when you factor in all the overhead. But it’s definitely an interesting way to find out as if you listed that publicly most people would want a further discount.
