Having The Canadian Government Do Your Taxes

Well, this has generated a lot of controversy today as apparently the government announcement a plan that would allow them to essentially file the taxes for citizens where the pitch is that this way more people will file them on time and accurately to the point where they will get maximum benefits on their tax returns. Sounds great on one end. However, others say this is alarming as that means the government technically needs full control of one’s life to be able to accurately identify how much people are earning.

For example, imagine as a self-employed person you usually have to keep receipts of tax write offs such as if there was a dinner meeting you went to. So, will that mean in the future you will now need to attach your bank account to the government where they can see real time and take data on demand of one’s purchases? As well, this would also mean they would have to hire a lot more people to actually do the job and the agency is often criticized for me inefficient as it is. So will this just create more debt and expense?

This is one of those things where people should be doing things themselves as much as they can. If taxes are getting way too complicated where an average person can’t do it themselves then that means the system itself needs to be relooked at in my opinion. Imagine as consumer where you pay a company money for services like the Internet and they make it so complicated to turn on that you nee to pay a guy $30/hour each day to do it. Like there, the company should have to fix its process where people can do it themselves for the most part.
