I was reading about potential camera announcements this month as some products are actually on my radar since it is time for an upgrade as I had one camera for well over a decade and it is showing its age. But one thing that was too coincidental it seemed was how when one company announced a reveal date for a new product it seemed like its competitor magically had an announcement of a similar type of product. That made me wonder if they already had this product on the shelves just for such an occasion as this indeed makes people second guess about purchasing the competitor products.
This is more feasible for large corporations of course where they have an industry presence and products that are always in development. There is often no need to release new stuff if sales are going well and so one can wait until the competitor tries to get ahead. Even as a consumer, I would say it definitely works as no one wants to pay premium pricing for a new product just to have another come out a few days later that is a lot better.
In some ways it can be a good business strategy to hold some products back it would seem like huh? Of course, if consumers find out companies are holding back better products when they could release something better for the money that doesn’t look good too so of course companies can’t really say they are doing that if so.
