This actually sounds concerning where I was reading that Google was proposing a digital rights management system of sort for the Internet where the pitch is this will enhance security. Everyone uses a browser and different hardware to access the Internet. One person could be using a laptop and another a smartphone as an example. Not imagine websites rejecting access if you are not using a browser that it deems as “legitimate”. Or take it a step further with hardware. Imagine blocking access to computers which are not using specific parts from a manufacturer.
That’s actually what it sounded like in terms of the direction it would be going. From a business point of view I can imagine this potentially being a way to control or stifle competition let alone the concerns an average individual would have. If you were the businesses that create something which would be approved on this list then I can see how one would love it. But it generally seems like a frightening proposition in my view.
Most software companies such as browser creators actually try and implement safety features to detect say sites with potential harmful code. But even then it’s a choice for you to proceed despite the warning. I personally think that is better overall as the thought of say one company creating a list where they can block out just say a competitor seems too risky for abuse I feel.
