Giving Free Money To Sales Pitch People

Sunny drone shot

Today there was an annual Chinese New Year parade here in Vancouver and I decided to check it out. There are usually people handing out lucky red envelopes where instead of money people usually put candy in them. Would get too expensive giving away one dollar to thousands of people as an example. But that got me thinking as there was one company that was giving people $20 gift cards to the supermarket.

That is a ton of money if people started to redeem them. There is a catch though of course. In this case it was a company that sold automobile insurance. So to get this $20 gift card you would have to drop off at one of their local stores and get a free customized quote for one of their insurance plans. You don’t have to buy anything. But in many ways that seems like an easy $20.

For the company though I would imagine it can be worth it for them if they are creating a marketing list of sort. Or at the same time if they do convert someone it’s probably worth way more than $20. Makes you wonder if these types of high reward stipulations are the best choice where you are guaranteeing that the person has to at least listen to the pitch. There is kind of no risk too in the sense of someone watching a commercial that you could have paid thousands for and not get anything in return. If you get people passing it around too it can be free advertising.
