I am not exactly sure why this seems to be happening more recently where I have been receiving a lot of unsolicited calls. At first you may think it’s just a telemarketing call which is common. But in this case it’s actually from some financial advisor from the bank I am with where they seem to want me to go to one of its branches for a free consultation of sort. My guess is that they want you to invest in some kind of plan with them to tie down your money of course.
But it did make me wonder where as the business do you ever think it is appropriate to randomly contact your customer base to try and see if you can get more business out of them per se? If you opt into a deal then that is different. But in this case I have never opted for anything like that with my bank so my assumption is they are just randomly going down the list and contacting people that they think will invest money with them.
Would you ever do that in any other business such as if you had a retail store and a customer billing database would you randomly look at all your past customers and contact the ones you think will be interested in buying something? I personally think this kind of stuff weakens the trust between you and the customer. Although it must work to a certain extent for companies to do it.
