One thing that a lot of successful businesses do is that they take advantage of virtually every tax break and benefit they can get even though realistically they don’t need it. For example, grants that in spirit are meant more for start-ups where because no one else applied for it a huge company end up getting it. This got me thinking as recently here in Canada there are going to be income assistance programs meant to help people who have lost their jobs due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
While that should be a good thing it was interesting where there were some people who were saying that that they were fine financially due to managing money very well overall. So they can go on for a long time without income. Even though they were affected by this and can’t work they mentioned that they won’t apply to receive these funds because they don’t need it.
Kind of makes you wonder here where does it make sense to be noble or would it be logical to still take something like this that is available to you? Again, the person was technically affected by it where under normal circumstances they would be working. To me this isn’t a situation of say taking free candy where you would rather leave it for the kids. It would be more like the company had to delay something and so they are offering everyone free gift cards. That’s how I would see it personally. Where in that sense I think it’s okay to take it.
