I had a fun and interesting day today as for a large part of it I got to help a person better understand how to use his smartphone that he recently got. He originally got it as he felt it would help make his life more productive business wise. However, it seemed to be driving him crazy as he kept complaining how the thing was so slow and that all the apps seemed to have a mind of its own. So after hearing this for about three weeks I offered to spend some time with him to solve this.
As expected, the phone was full of bloatware and so we proceeded to uninstall a lot of them. Just that alone made the phone load so much faster. Afterwards I began to teach him very basic functions such as how to install new apps and organize widgets for the home screen. It’s here where he got so excited to see that he could use things like a calendar feature to keep track of appointments or translating software where you can take pictures of foreign words and have the apps translate it for you.
It’s safe to say that by the end of all this he was really excited to use his smartphone to help be more productive. It does make me wonder how many people buy expensive items like this without fully understanding how to use it. Basically, it’s to the point where one is just using it as if it is a regular phone. Don’t be afraid to ask people for help though. Like here, it made a ton of difference for this person. If you pay a lot for a smartphone you may as well take full advantage of it.
