I have actually never seen a warning like this before on a review site such as Yelp. Essentially, recently there was a company that got some media coverage as a result of a person that was associated with it where overall it didn’t look too favorable. As a result, it got people like me to want to research more about it. Yelp is often a site that pops up when it comes to reviews on various business nowadays and that was when I was greeted with this lovely message:
Active Cleanup Alert
This business recently made waves in the news, which often means that people come to this page to post their views on the news.
While we don’t take a stand one way or the other when it comes to these news events, we do work to remove both positive and negative posts that appear to be motivated more by the news coverage itself than the reviewer’s personal consumer experience with the business.
As a result, your posts to this page may be removed as part of our cleanup process beginning Wednesday, October 21, 2015, but you should feel free to post your thoughts about the recent media coverage for this business on Yelp Talk at any time.
In many ways it makes sense as you kind of want to keep the reviews to people who have actually used a company’s product or service. It did kind of show how reviews in general can be really emotional both when it comes to positive and negative reviews. I guess with examples like these it doesn’t hurt to research if a company ever obtained media coverage in certain times. It may just correlate as to why all of a sudden they got a whole load of positive or negative reviews which should make you question the authenticity of it.
