This was new for me today as I was invited to go to a restaurant that seemed like it was a barbecue restaurant where you would order the meat and then cook it yourself. When I arrived, there was a QR code for you to scan as well as they gave you a physical menu. At first, I thought the QR code was just the menu as a lot of restaurants do that nowadays. But as it turns out, scanning this code takes you to a site where you can literally order your meal choices to then be served as its essentially you not having to call the server to take your order.
The system seemed to have an option for takeout too which leads me to believe they are essentially just using a common online platform except they figured they may as well do it for their diners as well to save time. For the most part, it seemed very efficient. Once the order was placed you can then review the total continue to order more as you please. There were prepared diches as well which they would cook and then serve you.
Would you actually think that would be good for a restaurant? You still require servers of course, but again it seems more practical especially if servers are scrambling to serve others without having time to take new orders. That was actually the only thing I noticed you couldn’t do such as when our water jug was empty it still required us to manually inform the servers of this versus being able to just alert them. Won’t be surprised if al restaurants go into this direction.
