Dying Rich With Money And No Experiences

A person was telling me a story about how he knew a person who spent his entire life being frugal where he definitely never had any debt. He would always commute to work with the bus, go back home, sleep, wake up and repeat the cycle. As it will happen with everyone he eventually passed away. In this case the person never even wrote a will as well. That wasn’t the point he focused on though. Instead it was how he literally did nothing but work his entire life and just saved his money for the heck of it. Never splurged on a vacation, purchased expensive things that could make life more comfortable and so forth.

So it seemed like he was trying to tell me one of those cautionary tales of life where in this case you shouldn’t forget to actually live a little as they say. While I am a frugal spender I think the main difference that prevents me from just earning money and doing nothing with it is that I only see money as a tool that can help you get the things you need to accomplish your goals. That’s as opposed to a goal of getting X amount of money in your bank account.

People usually say that if you are spending money you should spend it on experiences. It’s true in many ways I feel. But ultimately it’s about balance. Like saying if all you did was go on trips and never tried to earn any money then the majority of your life is probably you stressing out on how to pay the bills. Again, I think the most important thing is to just remember that money is just a tool of sort. You need to define that ultimate life goal that you have which should remind you that money isn’t everything and isn’t necessarily the only way to reach your goal.
