I was having a fun chat with some people in terms of some of the stuff that we still want to accomplish whether it is in regards to personal entertainment or perusing some kind of business. The interesting thing is for most people I talk to that have it set financially, they always want to be doing something rather than follow what is taught to most people which is basically work hard, save for your retirement and then enjoy that retirement time.
One person I know told me that he will never want to retire in the traditional sense as it will be too boring and that he will always be doing something to an extent. It’s kind of interesting though to see a lot of people’s reaction to this as for some reason a lot of people view it where it is suppose to be like a standard where if you are financially set for life then you are suppose to just go into a party or carefree mode from then on.
While I guess that really depends on your personality type, I personally think the traditional view of a retirement and how to get there is a little too specific which limits one’s ability to envision what they really want to do and achieve. As a result, a lot of people end up with kind of a fear mentality where they do things simply because it is implied that if you don’t follow that route you will never be able to live a comfortable lifestyle. Hence, people are afraid to take risks, do what you truly enjoy doing, etc.
Maybe my way of thinking will change in the future, but from what I gather the general view of a retirement is being able to enjoy your lifestyle in a controlled manner. With that in mind, why do you necessarily need to wait until you are at a very old age to do that? I personally see retirement as where basically I’ve done all I can with something and hence it is time to retire. Basically though, it doesn’t really have to do with money so much as it is not being able grow or learn something in a timely manner. Because of that, I guess I am more inclined to be in the view of never wanting to retire in life either.
