With all that news of Saudi Arabia purchasing so many video game companies recently the first reaction would be they are fundamentally buying themselves into a leadership position with such a huge opportunity to expand on all the game properties they now own. But even though they bought all this talent and IP, can they actually maintain what they bought? Because if you think about it, nothing is stopping everyone from quitting as an example to the point where the company they purchased may not be as valuable without the talent.
That has actually happened in some stories I read of game developers being bought out just for all the key leadership members to resign who in turn started new companies. I believe another example was a site called egghead that sold computer parts and they were bought out by Amazon I believe who wanted to expand in that area. Apparently, a short while after the sale another site was made called newegg. So the purchase wasn’t money well spent overall it seemed.
This isn’t like a situation of buying stocks and seeing how it goes. It makes you wonder how these gaming companies that were purchased will fair overall if the talent decides to leave.
