It seems like for people within BC Canada there is even more financial aid where the provincial government is offering people $1000 in tax free money for those who have been affected by COVID-19. From the information given if you qualify for the federal CERB benefit then you will qualify for this as well. Qualification points are stated as follows:
-Have been a resident of British Columbia on March 15, 2020
-Meet the eligibility requirements for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB)
-Have been approved for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, even if you haven’t received a federal benefit payment yet
-Be at least 15 years old on the date you apply
-Have filed, or agree to file, a 2019 B.C. income tax return
-Not be receiving provincial income assistance or disability assistance
I am almost thinking that they came up with the $1000 figure because with the CERB plan one of the stipulations is that you can’t earn more than $1000 in the month that you were applying. Although this does indicate that it is tax free and maybe you will be exempt, but this definitely helps people who don’t really have any form of side income at all.
