BC Election Dominion Voting Tabulator Productivity

Well, there was an election recently this year as one thing that changed was the use of tabulators to help speed up the counting process and the Elections Canada site showed all these pictures of a system with the name “Dominion Voting” which makes me wonder if this will bad advertising for them. It started off by producing results quick which was the main benefit o using these machines. But later in the night it was reported that people allegedly had issues with the password system that was locking them out and at the end of the day no one knew what the results were.

That raised so many topics on how manual counting would have probably been better or how we simply aren’t ready for an all-digital solution. At its current state, it seems like a digital solution like this would be better as a supplement versus as the replacement for traditional methods. For example, you could do it manually as usually and have this machine count it as well. If you find there are huge discrepancies in the total number of votes then that could be an easy way to alert you that something needs to be re-counted.

It reminds me of AI nowadays in its current state. There is definitely lots of great ways to use it as a time saver, but not necessarily as a replacement for a real person. I wouldn’t trust the AI to be a replacement for a human doctor as an example. Like there though, I can imagine a doctor making great use of it such as scanning a patient to see all the potential issues. As well, this voting tabulator fiasco makes you wonder if this was a bad time to actually try it with the day being so important.
