Bags of Grocery Items Being Sold By The Pound

While in a larger supermarket today I noticed that an employee was filling up the grocery section where you could buy items such as carrots by the pound. This was actually the first time I have seen a person stock it up where in this case they literally just took the five pound bag of carrots from a different section and poured it onto the rack for sale. While that is pretty common and convenient for people who don’t want to buy like five pounds of carrots, it sure puts a perspective on how much more you can often pay buying groceries this way.

For that store, the five pounds of carrots in a bag was like $2.50 and the cost for it in the per pound area was about 99 cents. Put that into perspective for all of your grocery shopping for the day and it will definitely add up. Granted that it is better to buy less if you are going to be throwing away the excess amount that you can’t finish in time. But seeing prices like these is usually what encourages me to find ways to get the better deals and at the same time not be wasteful.

If you are not into freezing items as an example, I still think the easiest way is to plan some of your shopping with friends or family members where you can all split up the cost and product. That way, everyone saves a lot of money and nothing goes to waste.
