Awkward Cold Sales Pitch By Old Contacts

This was so weird the other day as I got random message from a person whom I haven’t spoken to in a longtime as he was apparently trying to sign people up for services in order to meet a sales quota. The first odd thing was this person was located in a different country and so contacted a person like myself who doesn’t live there does no good. It appeared that he simply mass messages everyone on his phone whom he had contacted at some point in life. I even questioned if he knew who I was since there is no way anyone whom I knew should confuse which country I reside in.

That’s one way to essentially destroy a networking contact of sort I would say as it makes it clear the person was simply looking at everyone as a number to make a potential sale. I would be inclined to say, if you have an existing relationship with people whom you are contacting you should really personalize your message and make sure what you are requesting actually suits the person in question.

Most people are willing to help if they can. But seeing stuff like this would show the person reaching out is just in it for themselves per se and not many people would want to maintain a network with that type of person. It may not b the case, but perception is reality. It’s a good example too on how once you spent time building that relationship you still have to put in the effort to maintain. Especially if you are essentially trying to ask for favors.
