I was reading a notice from this Cherry Blossom Festival that has normally happened here every year for the longest time where it sounds like they are simply running out of funds to support the event next year as sponsorships don’t seem to be enough. I remember this year it actually did sound like they were very grateful they had some sponsors that stepped up. Because of this, the organizers have been asking people directly to donate money in an effort to continue with the free events.
This got me wondering if in these cases is it better to ask people for money or is it better to make a list of the items you need in hopes that someone will step up provide what you need? For example, if you need certain resources, by listing it maybe a company that provides such items will donate it. If you need food items maybe a catering company will donate it. In return, I am sure the organizer will list them as a sponsor.
It’s a different approach to say getting money to then hire those businesses. In some ways it may work better similar to how if you need help personally and you tell your network usually people with the skill will offer to help versus just asking people for money.
