A conversation came up today when it came to hiring people that was kind of interesting. While it was very general, the basis of the topic was that if you hire people who are too young they will most likely be unreliable such as phoning in sick all the time. If the people are too old there is a high chance they will not take direction very well.
I guess reasons like this is why employers are forbidden from asking things like one’s age during the hiring process. In general though, I always found that it’s the person’s background that dictates if they will be reliable or not for example. I have seen twenty year olds who are more mature and reliable than a thirty year olds for example. Odds are just against the younger people I think since it’s more than likely the lack of experience creates immaturity and all.
Similarly, an older person who doesn’t like to take direction or is stuck to their ways is mostly due to background I found. Isn’t that the whole of a resume for example to try and gauge how professional one is?
