Accidentally Sending Business Template Responses

Like most people you probably get hundreds of e-mails a day where a large portion of them are unsolicited spam messages looking to sell you a service or to acquire your personal information. While those would normally go to the trash, unfortunately that means legitimate mail would often get overlooked as a result as well.

But this was funny as I looked at this one message where it seemed like the sender forgot to actually input various details to make it look like they sent the message in their own words in a genuine way. This reminds me why so many times sending generic introductions don’t really get one’s attention as the assumption is this is exactly what is happening where someone is mass sending messages and hoping someone will respond.

I know for myself, making a specific reference to one of my work as an example is an easy way to get me to feel that the person has to have done a little research at least. Or naming someone who I know professionally as a connection is another way to achieve the same results. It’s virtually no different than meeting people in-person I think. For example, someone just saying “Sir, have you heard of” would usually result in people just ignoring them. But I guarantee, if someone came up to you greeting you by your name as an example or asking about a community that you are a member of that will definitely get your attention.
