Working Yourself To The Max Early or Not

So I was told recently on how apparently there was a student in high school who managed to work almost thirty hours a week at a restaurant all while going to school. This means the majority of his hours must have came at night and likely the weekends. At the end of the year he apparently was able to save up about $30,000. Again, keep in mind this is a high school student. It was done so that he could prepare himself financially once he goes to university and another factor mentioned was that he was young so his body can take it.

I have met people who did something similar as a young adult where they pretty much tore their bodies down quickly working in physically demanding construction jobs. In exchange, they were able to set themselves up nicely financially such as being able to buy a home. But was it really worth it for the amount of toll they have placed their bodies in? Everyone is different such as how some choose professions that are naturally going to injure your body such as professional wrestling.

I would probably only do something like that if my goal was to work in trades as it should theoretically be better to just start doing the work as much as you can early on. Because if I wanted to make money on the side in this way I would have likely tried to do something such as simply selling stuff online which is more flexible timewise. But if I wanted to be a carpenter then I would have likely always wanted to say be on the job after if the opportunity was there.

I guess the main risk for overworking yourself at that young of an age is you never know as your career path and ambitions may completely change after school. You may find out that you don’t really need that much money to start but rather you do need to spend more time reading materials and networking.
