When Your Competition Has Bad Press

After all that news about Amazon’s Cloud service going down yesterday it was kind of surprising for me to see how many companies there were who were quick to introduce their services that were similar to Amazon’s offerings except with the reasons why they felt theirs was better. Interesting way of capitalizing on someone else’s misfortunes I guess you can say.

I suppose in many ways it makes sense as it is essentially free publicity as anything related to the topic will probably get a lot of attention. It does make me wonder if any of them rushed their service at the last minute to get it out the door in an effort to capitalize on all the buzz. Another indirect way I have been seeing on how companies have capitalized on the negative press is that they simply created articles explaining how Amazon could have avoided the problem. That way people naturally get a sense that the person is an expert of sort and so that natural leads them to learn more about the company they are with.

Gotta take advantage of every opportunity you get to showcase yourself and standout I suppose.
