You probably already heard of people using AI as deepfakes or celebrities actually licensing their likeness to companies where they can create computer generated versions of them for ads. Basically, there is a lot of money to be made. But I was reading on how there are actually businesses that creates fake AI copies of a deceased person in order to help people avoid the trauma of their passing.
In one story, I was reading how a mother was actually completely oblivious of the fact that her son passed away in an accident recently and family members didn’t want her to suffer through that pain. Instead, an AI copy of him was created that copies his face and voice where this program would literally video call with the mom frequently as if he was alive. Can you imagine that? As people say, if she ever found out the truth she would be devastated even more.
It makes you wonder if this type of business is actually right to operate as you are kind of taking advantage of people in a desperate situation in any ways where the question of ethics cone up as well. This won’t be the last we see of AI related businesses like these as we have only scratched the surface.
