Trusting Businesses With A Hobby Approach or Not

In many cases when you have people who are passionate about a particular topic create and operate a business the assumption is it will be a safe bet that you are buying an item from people who understand exactly what you need and how to communicate with you. This got me thinking as awhile ago I purchased an item from such a business and currently they have yet to actually deliver the product despite actually taking my funds.

I think like most I tend to be a bit more understanding if it is a small business where things happen and they don’t actually have a lot of manpower like a big business. In this case the person appeared to initially blame the shipping getting caught up and informing me that they will have an update in a few days. So I waited and another week goes by with no response. But the odd thing is the manufacturer was telling the public that their item has arrived in specific markets.

After inquiring again this time I got not response. Granted its Black Friday and all but this kind of showed me the business felt too much like someone operating it as a side hobby where to minimize inventory risk as an example they need to take say my money first to buy it from the manufacturer and then ship it once they receive it. As well, taking time off during days like an average person it seems versus making sure they answer inquiries promptly like a full-time business.

I guess that would be the negative if someone treats it too much like a hobbyist huh? There needs that fine balance between down to earth approachable with an actual business operation focus.
