What fantastic message I got today as I was advising a person about their creative work and how to get noticed for it and they shared with me some exciting news as the work they made recently has been generating a lot of buzz. So good in fact that it will help them open doors for their career. What made this special was that initially his close friend and family members were telling him that he was wasting his time and it won’t amount to anything. He recently showed them his results and they were shocked.
This shows the importance of speaking to people who have been there and done that while at the same time offering encouragement to allow one to pursue their ambitions. Even for myself there were things where I look back and how I should have started sooner instead of listening to people who told me it would never work only to see those who did jump into the fray experience success earlier.
If anything, you need to always factor in who you are getting the advice from as those who have never walked in that path really have no clue about the risks and rewards of certain industries. In this case too, it’s not about the lack of skill or resources that would have stopped the person. Instead, it’s just naysayers. Choose your support system wisely.
