The Notion of Bragging How Much You Spent

What a weird scenario this was as a person was expressing how he wanted to buy a car but couldn’t afford one and so he relies on other means of transportation. Understandable of course. But what was odd was how he was bragging that he ate this restaurant for say 5 days a week as the food is very good and it was where all the “cool kids” hangout. As you can imagine, that is expensive. The person’s bill comes out to almost $20 each visit and so imagine spending $100 a week there. Just for one years alone that would be about $5200. You could easily buy a used car with that amount.

I am inclined to say it’s nothing one should be bragging about if at the same time they are expressing how they can’t afford things that will actually help them be more productive and improving their quality of life. If anything, it’s a sign that one needs to set their priorities straight while being to resist lavish spending if they aren’t in a position to do so.

Example, I’m sure with those savings one could make more money by speeding up travel time or enabling them to do more types of work. It just feels it’s more like something we would do as kids where our parents bought us free stuff and then we gloat about it as we don’t have to worry about expenses. But as an adult you now do so that means you may have to put aside those types of purchases for the time being.
