The Nintendo Switch 2 PR Disaster

This story about the Nintendo Switch 2 price shocking the whole word and creating a storm of negative press was so fascinating from a business point of view as you start to read opinions from the general public and people who have actually worked with the company before. While there is a lot of points, one of them that stood out to me is how people were saying the company Nintendo is just allowing all the negative speculation to spiral out of control as they aren’t actually saying anything themselves officially. People with knowledge of the company say they have all the resources and ability to answer questions immediately, but they are choosing not to.

One theory was due to management changes in the past that embraced in focusing on user experience and communication, apparently the new management doesn’t feel it is as necessary and for years they haven’t been practicing per se on how to address and communicate with the public instantly. They appeared to have just adopted a mindset of people will just want what they offer and they can say charge whatever they want. The approval process is apparently so bureaucratic as well that nothing gets done quickly.

I can only imagine because of the success of the original Nintendo Switch it’s one of those situations where if you see that the money is coming in then many feel they are now in control and everyone will just accept what you do. Even if one person here and there complains it’s not a big enough issue for you to address. But like here, it appears the company may have demonstrated that arrogance per se a bit too much as people took notice.

You have to remember, the customer is essentially your boss. You can’t make everyone happy of course. But you should always have the mindset on what is the best way to make sure you are providing the customer the best experience. As well, be sure to always maintain good relations with your media partners versus thinking you can just pull up a big and influential media source that will appease to everyone. It just doesn’t work at this day in age to just use say a celebrity as an example to hide news that people don’t agree with.
