The other day a person was telling me how he referenced one of my work in a specific community as it was related to a topic they were discussing. I don’t usually ask people to do such a thing where instead my hope is if people find it valuable then they will naturally just spread it around. It got me thinking though, should you always let the person or business know that you in a sense took the extra step to help spread the word about your product or service?
I can see in one way it could be a great way to potentially have the organization remember you as one of its biggest supporters which could in turn mean keeping you in mind for any special events. The other side of the coin would be as the recipient would you kind of view that as a tactic of sort for one to hopefully get some special privileges which can actually translate to it being a negative?
For the most part I actually appreciate it when people tell me that they were helping to spread the word about my work. While I may not have anything to give back other than a thank you I definitely keep track on who has been the most consistent in giving me support as I would love to do the same for them if I can.
