With so many messaging apps and companies requiring some kind of platform for all workers to communicate with Telegram is one app that a lot of people use while touting its security over other platforms. Well, today it seemed like the founder, Pavel Durov, was arrested in France. From what I gather, it was due to the platform not cooperating with authorities to moderate certain types of content such as sex abuse related and allegations of money laundering apparently. With that, a lot of people are worried about using the platform now due to things such as privacy concerns.
While an individual can pretty much switch to any platform immediately, that’s probably not viable for a large corporation that has integrated it into their daily operations as it takes time. As well, it may not even affect the users much overall once everything plays out and that would be bad having spent all that time and money to migrate only to learn you could have stayed.
It probably would be safer to just use generic tools such as people manually creating chat groups with their phones for quick notes and then have serious talks during meetings. But that is unlikely for a lot of companies nowadays that rely on cloud-based services as an example. This story shows too the challenges when running a service in different countries as some places could embrace your platform whereas others will want to shut it down. Maybe for many having a successful small local business isn’t too bad of an idea for those that just want to make a basic living.
